Aurora Teagarden is a fictional character from the film series that is based on the character of the same name from the classic children’s novel by Laura Ingalls Wilder. 1. A Bone to Pick: The Aurora Teagarden Mystery (2015)
Aurora, a single librarian from Lawrenceton “Ro” Teagarden, is a member of a true-crime discussion group, which irritates Ro’s mother, real estate agent Aida Teagarden, who believes Ro should be doing something more productive with her time, such as improving her appearance in order to attract a spouse. Ro and club president John Queensland, the uncle of Ro’s newspaper reporter best friend Sally Allison, have a nice or not-so-friendly rivalry over who has the most acute capacity to solve murders.
Jane Engles, a retired spinster librarian who mimics Ro in the future as a retired spinster librarian with a love for their discussion club topic – Jane’s is more specifically on the small subgroup of female murderers – passes away. Ro is surprised to hear that Jane has deeded her whole fortune to her, including a significant amount of money and a house, via Jane’s newly chosen lawyer Bubba Rankart.
Jane’s motive for leaving her house, Ro thinks, is to solve a prior neighborhood murder, of which Jane was probably ignorant of the victim and killer, but was confident of the victim’s body. Ro refuses to tell the cops about the skeleton, not even ex-club member and ex-boyfriend Robbery Detective Arthur Smith, and certainly not Arthur’s eight-month pregnant wife, Homicide Detective Lynn Liggett, who has a poor relationship with Ro.
Ro also maintains a secret about her newest boyfriend, Father Scott Aubrey, whom she met on a blind date set up by Jane shortly before her death. Many people are missing from Jane’s small enclave who might be the victim, with the primary suspects being all of Jane’s neighbors, whom Ro discovers are not as lovely as they seem. Despite her determination to solve the case, Ro may be in danger since she believes the murderer is aware of her presence.
2. The Aurora Teagarden Mystery: True Crime (2015)
After fellow member and newspaper reporter Sally Allison arranges for new Lawrenceton resident, Ro’s favorite current mystery novelist, and temporary university professor, Robin Daniels, to speak, the latest meeting of Lawrenceton librarian Aurora “Ro” Teagarden’s real murders discussion club is canceled.
Homicide Officer Lynn Liggett-Smith, who is married to fellow detective and Ro’s ex-boyfriend and former club member Arthur Smith, is in charge of the inquiry. As a consequence of Ro’s amateur investigations into prior murder cases in town, Lynn and Ro had formed an unbreakable connection.
Ro’s initial assumption is that the murderer is one of the club members, based on a phone call made earlier in the evening to the meeting site regarding the Julia Wallace murder. Julia Wallace’s unsolved 1934 murder is an exact duplicate of this incident, which only club members would have known was going to be discussed at the meeting. Robin’s chance presence on the scene, as well as his apparent inability or reluctance to provide an alibi at the time of the murder, make him a suspect.
While the police, Ro, and the club members investigate, the murderer continues to target more club members and their loved ones, each attempt matching one of the group’s prior cases. Ro takes meticulous efforts to figure out who will be the next victim or victims, both to prevent future attempts and to figure out who the killer is. She must also decide whether or not she can trust Robin, since the two are developing feelings for one other.
Three Bedrooms, One Corpse is the third Aurora Teagarden mystery (2016)
Aurora Teagarden, nicknamed Ro by her friends, is the president of a Lawrenceton-based real-life murders discussion group. Ro is paying a visit to the Anderton house as a favor to her mother, real estate agent Aida Teagarden, who is presenting the property to one of Aida’s new clients, Martin Bartell, a senior executive at Pan-Agra and a decorated former military member.
Ro and Martin’s showing does not go as planned when Martin discovers a body outside the house’s back gate, Tanya Lee Greenhouse, another local real estate agent. She had allegedly viewed the house the day before. Homicide Detective Lynn Liggett, the wife of former club member and Ro’s ex-boyfriend, Robbery Detective Arthur Smith, officially declares that she is launching a murder inquiry into Ro’s death.
Because there are only three companies in town, all of which are friendly to one another, the early evidence suggests that the killer was one of the town’s real estate brokers. Aida and her crew operated ABT Realty; Tanya Lee and her loving husband, Donnie Greenhouse, ran Greenhouse Realty; and Franklin Farrell (Terry and Franklin, respectively) ran Sternholz Farrell, who had dated Ro’s BFF once.
Apart from her obsession with real murders, Ro becomes involved in this case, if only to protect her mother, who might be the intended victim. Ro begins to believe that the murder was linked to a string of high-end art thefts that went unnoticed. However, after learning more about Martin’s previously undisclosed history, Ro can’t help but place him at the top of her suspect list.
The Julius House is the fourth Aurora Teagarden mystery (2016)
Aurora Teagarden, better known as Ro, is a Lawrenceton librarian and the president of a true-crime discussion club. She is still in the early stages of a romantic engagement with ex-CIA agent turned business entrepreneur Martin Bartell, and the two seem to be destined for true love.
Ro had wanted to buy a house since she got a substantial gift from a friend, according to her mother, Aida Teagarden, her real estate agent. Ro finds what she considers to be the perfect country house five miles outside of Lawrenceton, against Aida’s warnings.
Despite the Julius family’s disappearance four years ago – parents T.C. and Hope, the latter of whom suffered from illness, and their teenage daughter Charity – the fact that it is the infamous Julius house does not prevent her from buying it. The Juliuses, who had just moved from Spokane to Lawrenceton, were said to be on their way to dinner with an unknown Spokane friend in a white car, but they were never seen again.
Hope’s mother, Melba Totino, who now lives in Portland with her sister, Alicia Minault, had all three legally declared dead, allowing her to sell the house, but she maintains optimistic that they are still alive and would come home one day. Ro believes the Julius family’s disappearance was not an accident, and she and her fellow real murders club members John Queensland (Aida’s boyfriend), Ro’s best friend, newspaper reporter Sally Allison, who has been assigned to do a follow-up story on the Juliuses, and ex-juvie Perry Dell decide to investigate, much to the Julius family’s dismay.
Martin, too, would prefer Ro not to investigate, while admiring her tenacity. This evidence suggests that Charity and T.C. were at odds over her relationship with a young man named Harley Dimmoch, whom the Juliuses met while still living in Spokane. Ro also believes that the house has a lot of unknown secret places where additional information may be buried. If the Juliuses are murdered and the murderer believes Ro is perilously close to learning the truth, Martin’s worries may come true.
Meanwhile, John may be forced to choose between the real killings club and Aida, who may be able to influence Ro’s investigations via John.
The Aurora Teagarden Mystery: Dead Over Heels is the fifth book in the Aurora Teagarden Mystery series (2017)
One winter day in Lawrenceton, librarian Aurora Teagarden, also known as Ro, and her best friend, newspaper writer Sally Allison, are in Ro’s yard when a body leaps out of a single-engine plane and falls dead only feet away.
Ro last saw Chief of Police Frederick Burns when he inquired about the whereabouts of Ro’s boyfriend, business executive and former CIA Martin Bartell, with whom he wanted to discuss an undisclosed matter, which Captain Burns warned Ro, a true murders buff who has frequently insinuated herself in town murder cases, to avoid.
Captain Burns is survived by his wife, Bess Burns, who is the sister of Ro’s domineering boss, Lillian Tibbett. Detective Lynn Smith, the department’s senior detective, is leading the murder investigation and serving as Acting Police Chief, which is not standard procedure, much to the dismay of Detective Pete Lambert, who believes he is the senior detective after returning to Lawrenceton after a stint in Seattle.
Lambert is anxious to solve the murder to build a reputation with Mayor Sternholz, who will choose the next Chief, despite Lynn’s reluctance to assign him to the inquiry. Lambert seems to be a little quick in blaming Martin for the crime. Despite Ro’s intentions, the murder becomes a topic of discussion at her real murders discussion group, as many people worry that the murder of their police chief would lead to chaos in town and put their safety in jeopardy.
Regardless, Ro is forced to solve the murder on her own, which would be helped if she could figure out why Captain Burns wanted to meet with Martin in the first place. Martin’s former CIA colleague Tim Prentiss, who just moved to town, is another player in the unofficial investigation; he’s the man with whom Ro wants to see a future with Sally.
A Bunch of Trouble is the sixth Aurora Teagarden mystery (2017)
Aurora “Ro” Teagarden, a librarian in Lawrenceton, Washington, is a part of a real-life murder discussion group, which includes her best friend reporter Sally Allison, her mother Aida Teagarden’s boyfriend John Queensland, the town’s mayor Terry Sternholz, and ex-convict Perry Dell. The arrival of Regina Walker and her newborn baby Hayden surprises Ro and her boyfriend, ex-CIA operative Martin Bartell.
Martin was completely unaware that she was married, much alone a mother. Regina also claims that she and her husband Craig Walker had spent the past four months in Corinth, Washington. Ro and Martin come home after leaving Regina and Hayden alone at Ro’s to attend John’s birthday party at Aida’s, only to find Regina and her car missing, Regina’s bag still there, and a dead man on Ro’s front porch, eventually identified as Craig Walker.
This is Detective Arthur Smith’s first case as lead investigator, and his first under Captain Lynn Smith’s supervision. During or soon after Arthur and Lynn’s initial visit to Ro’s house to investigate, two additional people are discovered safe and alive in the house: baby Hayden, hidden in the bathroom bathtub, and Rory Brown, an apparent friend of Regina and Craig who was hiding.
Rory is willing to admit that he and Craig had a history of minor infractions, the most recent of which was check fraud, for which they were just released from a two-day jail sentence. Martin and Ro decide to undertake their searches for a still-alive Regina with the assistance of her murder club friends, often without informing Arthur or Lynn. Ro starts to question Regina’s claim to the child.
Throughout the inquiry, two additional worries emerge: whether Arthur and Lynn can have a successful marriage and professional relationship in their current positions, and if Ro and Martin are ready to have parents if they ever marry.
Aurora Teagarden Mystery: Last Scene Alive is the seventh installment in the Aurora Teagarden Mystery series (2018)
As a film production shoots in Lawrenceton, Hollywood comes to town. Robin Daniels, a mystery writer and former Lawrenceton resident, wrote “Whimsical Murder” to accompany his novel of the same name, which will be released concurrently with the film.
Robin, who was a member of Lawrenceton’s Real Murders Discussion Club while he lived there, based the characters on real-life people, notably the main character Adelaide, who was also a member of the Real Murders Discussion Club and the town’s mystery-solving librarian when Robin dated her.
Despite Meredith’s ambition for the main role, Ellen Post produced the film, Joel Parker directed it, Will Weir helped Parker, Celia Shaw featured as Adelaide, and Meredith Wear portrays Adelaide’s reporter best friend. Celia got the job via Robin, whom she had previously dated. Everyone in town is intrigued by the project and wants to be a part of it, including Ro’s mother, Aida Teagarden, who landed a job as a site scout after meeting Parker, with whom she immediately fell in love.
Taylor Harden, the craft service girl, is star-struck as well; she adores Robin’s mystery murder novels. Martin Bartell, Ro’s ex-CIA turned businessman boyfriend, believes Robin’s return is an attempt to win back Ro, even though Martin is preoccupied with another matter involving his former CIA partner and best friend; and Ro herself, who is taken aback by all the attention, are the two people who are not completely enthralled by the production.
Celia is found dead in her trailer on the first day of filming, a murder that seems to have been carried out by someone connected to the project. Despite Police Chief Lynn Smith’s best efforts to dissuade Ro in particular from becoming involved, the Discussion Club mobilizes to figure out what happened to Celia, which involves the return of Lynn’s husband, Police Detective Arthur Smith.
If some reports regarding Celia’s murder are true, and she was previously romantically engaged to Robin, Ro may be targeted for reasons other than being too close to the truth.
8. Aurora Teagarden Mystery: What You Sew, You Reap (2018)
Poppy Wilson just returned to Lawrenceton with seed money from her wealthy father, Marv Wilson, to start a yarn and embroidery business with her best friend, Cara Embler.
While Cara’s domain, the brick-and-mortar store, is doing well, Poppy’s hosted YouTube videos have been the company’s biggest moneymaker, and she and Cara want to publish a book, which should also be lucrative, based on the amount of followers to their YouTube channel.
For the last three months, Poppy has been dating Dustin Sykes, a local newspaper reporter. He invites her to a banquet where he will be recognized. Poppy’s best friend, Dustin’s reporter colleague Sally Allison, hurries to Poppy’s apartment, which she was renting from Roe’s realtor mother Aida Teagarden, after her childhood friend Aurora “Roe” Teagarden fails to arrive.
They come upon Poppy, who has died from a knife wound. Because Police Chief Lynn Smith is on maternity leave, her husband Arthur Smith is in charge of the inquiry. He is aware that members of the Real Murders Discussion Club, led by Roe, Sally, Mayor Sternholz, and Jason Dell (who is starting a private investigative firm with his cousin Perry), want to carry out their investigations, and he tries to dissuade them.
Although many of the suspects are longtime friends, family members, and/or upstanding Lawrenceton citizens, the main suspects are Dustin, who Poppy turned down when he proposed; Sally’s cousin Lizzy Allison, who suspected her lawyer fiancé Bubba Rankart of having an affair with one of his clients, Poppy; Bubba himself, as much incriminating evidence points in his direction; and Nicole Wilson, newlywed.
Given that Nicole and Marv are staying with Aida and Roe in Lawrencton, Aida and Roe may be caught in the crossfire if Nicole is the murderer of Poppy and subsequently tries to kill Marv.
The Disappearing Game is the ninth Aurora Teagarden Mystery (2018)
Aurora Teagarden, often known as “Ro,” is a librarian and member of Lawrenceton College’s Real Murders debate team. Aurora has acted as a big sister to her cousin Phillip Pifer when he started attending Lawrenceton College. Her time with him is meant to take her mind off the fact that she misses her serious boyfriend Martin Bartell, who has returned to the CIA.
Ro says she isn’t ready to date again, but her mother, realtor Aida Teagarden, and her best friend, newspaper journalist Sally Allison, disagree. Phillip’s birthday supper is hosted by Ro and Aida, who invite Phillip, his dorm roommate Josh Farrell, and Josh’s girlfriend Tammy Driscoll. When Ro goes looking for them after they miss dinner due to Phillip’s lie, she discovers Tammy’s body in the back alley behind the salon where she had a hair appointment, the victim of an apparent hit-and-run.
The police investigation is being led by Detective Arthur Smith, a former member of the Real Murders organization. With Phillip and Josh gone, they became the leading suspects in Tammy’s murder, especially when colleagues reported that Josh and Tammy often fought about Josh’s possessiveness toward her.
Ro and fellow Real Murders members Sally and Jason Dell investigate what happened to protect her family, much to Arthur’s chagrin. Arthur wants them to stay out of his way until he needs them. One of the amateur sleuths is Nick Miller, Tammy’s Psychology professor and Ro’s new neighbor. Aida and Sally believe he might be Ro’s first suitor after Martin.
Clayton Harrison, the son of wealthy Aida’s friends Dan and Carolyn Harrison, has vanished, complicating the investigation. Clayton, who is also a college student and with whom Phillip used to interact as a kid whenever Phillip came to town, is often portrayed as a spoilt and entitled rich child.
Clayton has been engaged in a number of squabbles, the most recent of which saw him defacing a campus monument donated by local businessman Dale Murphy. Might Phillip, Josh, and Clayton’s disappearance be due to their eluding the cops for murdering Tammy, or could they have been caught in the crossfire of who killed her?
10. The Aurora Teagarden Mystery: A Cat and Mouse Game (2019)
Aurora Teagarden, called Ro to her friends, is the president of the Lawrenceton Real Murders Discussion Club and a librarian. When it comes to real-life killings, she is generally considered as the club’s most informed member. Her younger cousin, college student Phillip Pifer, annoys Ro’s mother, realtor Aida Teagarden, who only sees difficulty in talking murder, and a new acquaintance, Nick Miller, a psychology professor at the local college, with whom Ro seems to be on the brink of a romance.
When Ro organizes a Lipstick Murders discussion the day before a meeting, the club members come to find Ro’s discussion materials have been damaged or stolen, with the vandal leaving a calling card in the shape of a literary quotation written on one of Ro’s Lipstick Murders crime scene photographs.
Aida’s workplace is later vandalized with a similar literary quotation calling card on another Lipstick Murders crime scene picture, and some of Ro’s papers are taken in the prior incident, leading to the conclusion that Ro is the common link and target of the criminal’s activities based on other evidence. Lynn Smith, Police Chief, and her husband, Homicide Detective Arthur Smith — a Real Murders member, to to Lynn’s chagrin – are on the hunt for anybody having a grudge against Ro.
New club member Davis Mettle appears to resent Ro’s superiority on the subject; Edward Irons, a regular at the library who blames Ro for not having his self-published book stocked in the library; Nick’s new T.A. Dina McMillan, an academically bright but socially insecure woman who appears to have an instant dislike for Ro; and, much to Ro’s chagrin, Valer are among the suspects.
Although Lynn has always had a grudge against the members of the Real Murders Club, especially Ro, she appreciates the assistance of her friend and Nick’s boss, Forensic Psychologist Bree Carson, who may be able to provide more information than the surface evidence.
This group will have to act quickly to apprehend the perpetrator, as he or she has committed more crimes against people close to Ro, with the same signature on a photo and stolen items from the previous crime left at the scene, with the crimes becoming increasingly violent and arguably aimed at Ro herself.
The Aurora Teagarden Mystery: A Life-Changing Inheritance (2019)
Prosperous and generous Gladys Allison-McCourt is the proprietor of Lawrenceton’s biggest company, Allicourt Industries. Cade McCourt, Gladys’ son, was recently appointed CEO of the company, and he appears to be at odds with a number of people, including retired Victor Hansen, the former CEO, who believes Cade is out of his element and is running the company into the ground; Tannis Clemmons, Gladys’ longtime personal assistant, who competes with Cade for control of his mother; and Jeremy Connor, Gladys’ foreman.
Gladys collapses and dies of a heart attack during the wedding celebration provided by Jeremy for her niece Lizzie Allison and Gladys’ lawyer Bubba Rankart. As Chief Lynn Smith and her husband, Homicide Detective Arthur Smith, investigate, they learn that Gladys died of cyanide poisoning, not a heart attack, as had been assumed. Cyanide traces were found in a water glass and a wine glass used at the event.
When Gladys’ recently revised will is read, the murder investigation takes on a new tangent, with two unexpected beneficiaries inheriting the majority of the estate – the person inheriting both the mansion and the business has no idea why Gladys chose her as the primary beneficiary – rather than Cade, who was the primary beneficiary in the original will but is practically comatose.
Cade, as a result, jumps to the top of the suspect list in what had been a difficult relationship between him and his mother. To Lynn’s chagrin, librarian Aurora Teagarden – Ro to her friends – and her best friend/Gladys’ niece, newspaper reporter Sally Allison, both members of the town’s Real Murders Discussion Club, begin investigating with the help of their Real Murders colleagues with a greater motive than their curiosity about the who’s and why’s of murders in general.
Nick Miller, Ro’s new boyfriend and a psychology professor at the institution, gives up a large part of his professional life to help in any way he can. Nick does so in order to be closer to Ro and ensure her protection, especially while a murderer is on the loose, but his closeness to Ro in what he considers to be an almost perfect relationship may lead Ro to experience other unexpected feelings.
A Very Foul Play: The Aurora Teagarden Mystery (2019)
Aurora Teagarden, a Lawrenceton librarian and President of the town’s Real Murders Discussion Club, is asked to give a presentation and moderate a panel discussion at “From Motive to Murder,” an annual true crime and mystery conference held at the same mountain resort every year, at the eleventh hour.
When Ro agreed, she had no idea that the other panelist in her session would be Lawrenceton Police Chief Lynn Smith, who had long been enraged by Ro and the other club members meddling with murder investigations. Due to unforeseen circumstances, a few individuals from Lawrenceton who would normally shun such an event, such as Ro’s mother, realtor Aida Teagarden, find themselves there.
The event’s organizer, Linda Bennett, has previously written and staged a murder mystery play, with guest speakers asked to play some of the roles for the event’s sole performance. A member of the cast or conference is murdered on-stage during a well-timed blackout during this one-of-a-kind performance. Given that one of their own is the main suspect in the eyes of the local cops based only on circumstantial evidence and no real motive, Ro and the other Real Murders members launch an investigation to clear their friend, whom they know is innocent.
The difference between this case and others they’ve looked into in Lawrenceton is that Lynn and her husband, Detective Arthur Smith, who is also a member of the Real Murders club, are on the outside looking in and must work with Ro and her colleagues.
Linda Bennett, who is struggling financially as a result of the event and the theater’s threat; developer Boyd Stauberg, who usually gets what he wants by wielding his power; Boyd’s son Brett Stauberg, who was in an on-again/off-again relationship with the victim, and they, who appeared to be of the same mind
Heist and Seek: The Aurora Teagarden Mystery (2020)
A Renaissance gala fundraiser is being held at the Lawrenceton Public Library, with a few artifacts on loan from the Seattle Museum of History on display, including a crown used by Elizabeth I. A museum board member, James Reading, wants this to be the first of many such loans to organizations to raise awareness of the museum’s Tudor exhibit, while Assistant Director Kelly Stevens opposes the loan, believing it to be too dangerous.
The Lawrenceton Police Department, led by Chief Lynn Smith and her husband Detective Arthur Smith, will be in charge of venue security in addition to the museum’s security services. The crown disappears moments after the last inspection of the components before the gala’s formal presentation.
Assistant Librarian Aurora Teagarden – Ro to her friends – her Criminology Professor lover Nick Miller, and their other members of the Real Murders Discussion Club, especially those present at the gala, feel forced to investigate the theft, much to Lynn’s disgust. When the primary suspect is found dead, the investigation moves closer to the Discussion Club’s wheelhouse, with the theory that the deceased, although the heist’s perpetrator, was simply a front for the murderer.
Nick’s colleague Eric Hanson, a Professor of Western Civilization whom Nick and Ro tried to pair up with Ro’s best friend and fellow Club member, reporter Sally Allison, may be able to provide some insight on Ro and Nick. Professor Eric, on the other hand, had no chemistry with Sally until he showed interest in this case.
Mild-mannered Howard Kane, a regular library patron who Ro discovers is an ex-con who served time for theft; Seattle-based importer/exporter Miya Quan, who refused to be searched following the theft, threatening legal action if she was; and Kelly Stevens herself, who has made no secret of her desire for her boss’ job, citing the theft and her opposition to the loa, are among the suspects.
Throughout, Nick tries to outwit super-sleuth Ro by proposing to her when she least expects it, an inquiry that may throw the proceedings into disarray in more ways than one.
